Email Marketing Or SEO Marketing Which Is More Important
Posted on Jul 3, 2010 04:19:12 PM
If you’re just getting started with Internet marketing there are several questions you need to ask yourself and the first of which is this; what area of Internet marketing is going to be your primary focus.
Business is about trade-offs. There are only so many resources available. In this case, there are only so many hours in the day and only so much money in your bank account.
Marketing usually just comes down to either time or money. Either you spend money or you spend your time.
Which brings us back to the concept of a trade-off. When you’re first getting started with Internet Marketing, you probably don’t have a lot of money to throw at things like advertising and other methods of marketing so you can make a trade-off and instead invest your time.
The only problem is, there’s only so much time in the day and most things require a lot of time so you have to decide pretty early on what to focus most of your attention on.
When you’re just getting started this usually comes down to a question of either focusing on e-mail marketing or search engine optimization marketing or SEM.
Both of them have their benefits and both of them have their drawbacks so it’s important to decide which of the two you’re going to focus on more.
In my opinion, if you’re just getting started you should focus most of your energy on search engine marketing because you can’t really do anything else, including e-mail marketing, without first getting a steady stream of traffic to your website and one of the best ways to get traffic is through optimizing your website for the search engines.
After you spend the time getting your website ranked highly in the search engines, and are starting to see a steady flow of traffic to your website, then you can focus on building your e-mail list and subsequently marketing to that list.
That’s not to say that search engine marketing is more important than e-mail marketing per se, but rather that SEO marketing is merely the first step you should take.
After all, it can take a long time to get your website really ranked well at the search engines and the more energy you put into it, the faster it can happen. Keyword research alone can take days if you’re not that experienced with some of the tools out there to help speed up the process.
In the end its a matter of balance as well. I suggest spending 90% of your time on search engine marketing and 10% of your time on email marketing at the beginning, and slowly reversing that ratio as time goes on and your search engine rankings improve.

There are some SEO marketing tips that can be useful for driving traffic to your website. The main purpose of SEO writing is to attract search engines without offending them by word or phrase overuse. SEO (search engine optimization) is a concept that puts forth the idea that a particular way of using special words or phrases can help boost website placement in browser searches. The best result is to appear in the top ten listings when someone searches for certain keywords.
Keywords or phrases are repeated at a rather low frequency, usually around 5% saturation or less. The repetition draws search engine attraction and helps bring the website priority in the listing. Listings can include millions of other websites and if your website is not found on the first page or two is may not every been seen by a browser. People doing searches do not usually look beyond the initial page or so of listings that come up.
SEO marketing tips are simple. Do not overuse your keywords but make sure you do use them sufficiently. Include keywords in your meta tags and website description. Put keywords or phrases into the domain name, the headers and high on the landing page. Use keywords in content. Vary and change your website content frequently and get some back links to your website from many other websites.
One way to create the links from other websites is to place blog entries on them that include a link back to your website. SEO marketing tips apply to website design as well. Keep the use of SEO keywords and phrases in mind from the very start for the best results. Do a little research about SEO marketing in the beginning to get started on the right track.
